OPINION: Nobody REALLY Knows How To Pronounce South Korean Car Company Hyundai #Hyundaigate

A few weeks ago I was driving with my friend Lily when she pointed out that almost every time there's a horrendous driver in front of her, it's a Hyundai. I said, "You damn Hyundai drivers" and shook my fists to the sky, when she looked at me BAMBOOZLED. And that's when I learned what I knew all along: I have no fucking idea how to pronounce Hyundai.

And not only do I say it wrong, I say it unrecognizably wrong.

So I obviously had to ask the internet to get to the bottom of this. And turns out, shocker shocker, I was wrong. BUT LIKE HOW DO YOU NOT PRONOUNCE THE Y?? I don't get it.

The overwhelming answer seemed to be a "Hun-day" pronunciation, which I'm not going to lie, I can't wrap my head around. In what world is HYUNDAI pronounced like HUNDAY???

It sounds so wrong.

I always thought the -dai at the end was pronounced like like Mai Tai 🤷‍♀️

Coach Duggs, AKA the future Mr. Cooperband, breaks it down simply for my little brain (he knows me so well!) and says it rhymes with Sunday. But then Frank the Tank says it's not Hun-day it's Hon-die so I really don't know what to believe. I'm not convinced.

However what I do believe to be true at this juncture is that I am most likely wrong because 1. I usually am and 2. there was only one other Hi-Yun-die guy I could find.
